A 40-minute booking outage yesterday, and the 5xx alarm warned nobody

Marsa Ferries (a fictional Tanger Med – Algeciras ferry company) sells its tickets on
reservations.marsaferries.ma, behind an Application Load Balancer.
Yesterday, from 14:10 to 14:50, the site returned 502 errors (an application problem, since fixed).
It was customers, on social media, who alerted the team. Yet a CloudWatch alarm
alb-5xx-reservations exists precisely for this: it is supposed to send an SMS and an email to the
on-call team above 50 5xx errors in 5 minutes.
The operations manager asks you to find out why the alarm said nothing, and to fix it today.
