Patient records have been taking 8 seconds to open since 10 a.m.

Fez · AWS account eu-west-3 · Clinique Al Wiam · 11:05

Clinique Al Wiam (a fictional private clinic in Fez, 120 beds) hosts its electronic patient record (EPR) system on AWS. The PostgreSQL 16 database runs on the dpi-db-01 instance (m5.xlarge), with its data on a separate EBS volume mounted on /var/lib/pgsql.

This morning, at 07:00, the team launched the quarterly reindexing and the import of the year's laboratory results (a large volume). The job finished at 09:40. Since about 10:00, doctors have been complaining: opening a record takes 8 to 10 seconds, prescriptions print late.

The contractor claims that “the database is badly indexed” and suggests rebooting the server.

You are connected to dpi-db-01 through Session Manager; the instance has the AWS CLI v2 with a CloudWatch/EC2 read-only role and the right to modify volumes (region eu-west-3).
