New order VMs: “Name or service not known” for the internal database

Souss Fresh Export, a fresh produce exporter in the Agadir region, is migrating its order application from the old VPC vpc-legacy to a new VPC vpc-prod-v2 (region me-central2), peered with the old one. Internal names (*.interne.soussfresh.ma) are served by a Cloud DNS private zone zone-interne, created three years ago.

The new VMs cmd-v2-01 and cmd-v2-02 boot, but the application crashes on startup: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND db-commandes.interne.soussfresh.ma. The tomato shipments for the port of Agadir must be entered before 18:00. The developer suggests hard-coding the IP in /etc/hosts.
